Two year olds.

Days like this make me wish I had a job to go to. Any job. Just to take me away. Talk to people my own age. Use my brain. Wear cute clothes. And heels.

But then I put my sweet boy down for his 2.5 to 3 hour nap, I get my exercise on and then hop in the tub with Catching Fire and all of those feelings drift away.

I really don't want a job just yet.

My friend had a baby girl 2 days ago. Rachel Ruth. I made her some little flower headbands. I also got to use some of my stamps to dress up the packaging. This kind of stuff makes me happy.

Today is my day off. Archie goes to the sitter and I get very anxious. Meaning I do more stuff on this day than any other day. It's the opposite of relaxing. One of these days I will figure out how to maybe possibly do nothing on this day. I'm sensing that will never happen.

One of my many chores is to finish these hearts that I am making for a store in Nob Hill. I've made a few things and sold them there and I like to keep a steady flow going in. I don't make a ton of cash money, but I like that people buy my stuff. It makes a girl feel good.

These will be cute for Valentines Day, I think. Buy one or buy a few for a "bouquet".

I'm thinking of adding a few felt triangles to the end to make them into arrows. Maybe? God, I love to make stuff.

I've also gotten into making stamps.

Here's my scrap paper with all of my stamp designs. Nothing that will blow one's mind, but let me tell you! Put on some classical music, start carving and you will be so entranced that the dinner may or may not get burned.

In other news, I am still doing Jillian Michaels 30 day shred, Level 2 and I am reading The Hunger Games. I recommend both.

Homemade hand soap

I made some hand soap! I found this diy here, which was found here, and decided to give it a try. I wanted to use a nice soap so I ventured out to Whole Foods and picked up a bar of their Lemon Verbena. After that it was just shred, cook and try to be patient as it sits for 12 hours. It came out great, with my only complaint being that I made too much. I decided to give some away so I put a portion of the batch into a large Palmolive container, whipped up a cute label and voila!

2012 started off great.

We had a shindig. Lobster and prosecco. Lots of prosecco.

Bubba got his bimonthly haircut.

I made some bowls. Clay and Martha Stewart paint. Easy peasy.

And then it went downhill with a trip to the ER.

Of course it seemed worse to this first time mom whose child has never been to the doctor for more than his shots. Six stitches and now he's fine.

I'm thinking it can only get better from here.

It's good to be back.

We're around. We made it to Louisiana and back, came home with something awful that stuck around for about 2 weeks and now we're getting back into our groove. I'm going to continue making things to add to my already cluttered home (I can't stop!) and keep trying to find a job in La. so we can get back to that awful humidity! We love it!

I know, I know. Stop complaining. But this is good stress I suppose. See, I'm flying to Louisiana for the first time with Archie and I'm doing it solo for the flight there. Andoe will be with us on the way back. Of course I'm just picture my son acting like a wild banshee on the plane, screaming the whole way. Honestly, that's not Archie at all. Sure he's a typical rambunctious toddler, but he's also very mellow at times and never carries on in a fit for more that a few seconds. So why am I torturing myself? Also, I'm not a good flier myself and now I have to worry about someone besides myself. I know, this is all dumb and once I get to New Orleans and get myself a huge daiquiri, all of this stress will be a stupid distant memory. Until then, I will embrace the hives. I really don't have hives, but I might as well.

I'm practicing with watercolors now. I've always painted, but not with this medium. It's hard, but I like it. Those up there are little 2x3 frames I found at Hobby Lobby for $2.50 and I think a bunch of them clustered together would look really cute on a wall.

I did this Facebook thingy a while back where I have to make handmade gifts for the first five people to comment. Maybe I've mentioned this already. Anyway, so I've made 3. I just finished the third one today. It's for a woman. She's a grandma. I'm not sure if it will be her taste, but it's mine, and I like it. I bought some linen material and dug out all of my paints and just went at it. Then I stitched and stuffed and came out with this.

Yesterday we met up with some other moms for a little bit of exercise in the park. We usually start off and finish with some exercises on the yoga mat while all of the babes chill in their strollers.

Then I went outside and finished preparing the garden. We have to wait until the danger of frost has passed before we plant, but impatient Sally over here is wanting to say eff it. That garden is seriously calling my name.

Bought the kiddo a sandbox today. Hopefully he does the opposite of what we expect, which is shovel all of the sand out of the box and onto the grass. This may have been a huge mistake.

For the past few days I've been working on some wedding stuff. Not for me, obviously, but for someone else. Stuffed hearts and banners! Here is one of the banners I made. The picture really doesn't show how cute it is. I hung it over my bed to try and snap some good shots, but that failed. And please ignore all of the shit on our bedside tables. My OCD-ness doesn't seem to mind the clutter in that region of the house.

Now I'm off to do some squats. And maybe some butt firming moves. All I know is that I want to consume some beer at some point today.

We went to Las Cruces over the weekend. Andoe has lots of family down there. It was warm and lovely. I love going there.

I can't say if we're going to have another baby. Maybe not. We like having one. I'm not getting my tubes tied or anything, but we're content.

This is what Archie eats for dinner most nights. Minus the pasta. Tomatoes, avocado and hummus. He'll eat whatever else I serve plus these things. I didn't start eating such yummy things until I was well into my 20's. Like closer to 30. Must be nice.

Here is a little video of Archie taken a couple of days ago. He just had his 2nd haircut and I think he was admiring it. This is him in a nutshell. Very cute and entertaining. Oh, and that's Andoe's Mentholatum in his hand. A day doesn't go by without that kiddo stealing it off of Andoe's nightstand.

I've added a couple of different things to the Sweet Olive Shop. I'm trying to branch out from the Bubbies. But just a little. I still like making those little guys.

I admit it. I love Forever 21. However, I really can't wear too much of their stuff because I don't have the figure of a 21 year old. I do buy their dresses and wear them as shirts though. Anyway, I stopped in yesterday to "look" and found this tank top. It looked "big" so I thought I'd try it. Amazingly, it fit. And it's long. And it's $2.50! So there. I'm sharing. Went to market for peanut butter soup ingredients.
Made 2 stuffie/cutie doll things. I don't know what to call them.

I will park myself in the tub for 30 to 45 min with my novel.
Watch Who's the Boss with Archie when he wakes up. Love that show.
Make dinner.
Sip some wine.
Hang with the husband and watch Modern Family.

I'm going on 3 months without a job. The only time I've ever gone this long was when I was on maternity leave. And, admittedly, this time is so much better. I felt so crappy those first few months that I didn't get to fully enjoy it. So sad. If we do this baby thing again, I am going to handle it differently. I don't know how yet, but I will.
In other news, I joined a mommy group. I'm really looking forward to it. Since I've gotten "older" I've been very settled in my life and content with the few friends I have, but now that I have Archie I think it's time to get out of that rut. I want him to be a social butterfly so I guess I need to lead by example. We'll see how it goes!

Probably once of week for dinner we have what we call "snack night". We just pull out whatever we have that would usually be eaten for a snack. I would probably do this most nights, but I don't think it's the best way to feed our growing child.
Last night we had olives stuffed with garlic, hummus with pita, some leftover muffins that Andoe made, salmon, gorgonzola crackers, and the most delicious beer from Trader Joe's (Archie drank milk). And of course all of this was consumed while Archie watched his favorite programs, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. That kid is a trip.

Last night Archie woke up at around 10pm. He NEVER does this. I think we've had to get up a hand full of times in the last six months. Hallelujah! Anyway, so he was up with a tummy ache. Andoe, as usual, was the one to go to him. After soothing him with some Gripe Water I decided that it would be great to put him in bed with us. I love the idea but it never works out. The kid is squirmy. He's happy, but he likes his space. So after 10 minutes of trying to snuggle in bed with my 2 guys, the littlest one was removed. And all was good.

For dinner I made linguine in a cream sauce with baked salmon. I guess that was the tummy ache culprit. I will tell you, though, that baby boy will eat anything. I honestly cannot tell you one thing he does not like. Anything. Even spicy Indian food. And olives stuffed with garlic. Capers. Grilled tuna. Amazing.

-And then take a bubble bath while the baby sleeps.

I whipped this up yesterday for Archie's friend. The letters aren't as crooked as they appear. I just didn't lay it flat. And the wet spot is just from me cleaning up some of the glue spots. I was impatient. As usual.
I have lots of ideas lately, but the things I want to make cost money. A little more than I want to part with now. Frustrating.

Gift idea

I got this idea from Design Sponge and I love it. It's a journal, calender, or whatever you want to use it as. I made it for my mom-in-law. I will probably make more in the future. Stamping the date on each index card was the bitchiest part. And finding the vintage post cards. For some reason I remember seeing these all over the place back in the day. Not the case anymore, apparently. Also, DS said to use a little fruit container thingy (you know the ones that plums(?)come in).Well, where the eff you find those things, I don't have a clue. I just went to Hobby Lobby and got that cute basket for like $2.
Anyway, here are the pics.

How to do it:
-Get your ass to a flea market and find 12 vintage postcards. Good luck with that.
-I used 5 x 8 index cards and cut them in half.
-Stamp the date on every one of those mofos.
-Put them in a cute little box/tin/basket.
-Separate the months with each postcard.
-Tie 'em up with some twine. I used hemp so one can recycle and make a necklace or something.
-I also bought some vintagey postcard paper to make gift tags.
-And that's it! Now do it!

Now that I am unemployed and at home with a toddler I had to retire the gym membership for now. I have been an exerciser for 10 plus years. I must do it at least 5 times a week. It doesn't look that way if you look at the old bod, but my mind is awesome and I eat whatever and enjoy my wine.
Luckily I have Netflix streaming through our Wii and there are a few workouts I try to do most days of the week plus walks at the park when the weather permits these days. My two favorites (because they are the only ones on Netflix that I like) are 10 Minute Solutions - Workouts to Shape Up the Whole Body and Crunch Workout - Total Resculpt. I usually do the whole Resculpt workout but only do 1 maybe 2 of the 10 minute routines. That little blond lady is somethin'.
Well, that's my 2 cents on the whole exercise thing. If I don't do it, I might choke a bitch.

Diary entry #700

Yep, this is like a diary. A public one. Nothing juicy though, sadly. I keep those things to myself. I hope I can look back here in 50 years and see what I was up to. Today is my 700th entry. Of all of the journals I kept as a child/teenager, I know I never made it to 700. Maybe 50 at the most. And who knows where those things are. Shit. How embarrassing.
Anyway, so today while the little guy napped I put up some decorations. Just a few. I am going to drive that baby nuts. So many fun lights but he's not allowed to touch? This might be considered torture.

P.S I realized after the fact that I put Andoe and Erin on the stockings instead of Mom and Dad. I guess I'll have to go back to target to get some new ones.

I am worn out and it's only 9:30am. That baby of mine is on a path of destruction. He just goes from one room to another tearing stuff up. He loves to knock the books off the bookshelf, drag all of the clothes out of the hamper, pull things down from my crafting table....the list could go on. Oh, and he just ate a piece of fabric softener and threw up a little on the carpet. I don't know why I bother picking up after him but that's all I do all day. But damn it, he's cute! I try my hardest not to laugh when he does some of these things, but most of the time it's hard to control. Both Andoe and I have to walk out of the room so we can just giggle. That kid is entertainment!
Besides chasing Arch down all day, I have lots to do. I'm making some things for gifts this year, because 1. I have some free time and 2. I am lacking a little in the funds area. Actually, making stuff isn't always the cheapest route as I saw when I checked out at Hobby Lobby the other day. What I spent on stuff to make I could have just bought and saved some time to make more cookies. That's another thing I'm working on. Cookies. For Christmas. To give away and hopefully not eat.
Omg, I sound like a housewife.
I'm still taking the 30 days of Archer pictures. Today was day 8. I'll wait until the end to post it.
Well, now I have to apply for jobs because that is what the unemployment office wants me to do. And I will be applying to jobs other than ones in New Mexico. Yes, I am talking about the south. I want to be there. We need to be there. Still trying to figure out how to get there.

This is the first year I'm super excited about decorating for Christmas. I've never really owned many decorations besides a tiny fake tree and of course some lights. But now I can't seem to get enough and I'm already putting things around the house. Not full out yet, but come the day after Thanksgiving, this house may look obnoxious.

I put up some lights yesterday and didn't consider that someone would learn how to climb onto the couch the same day. Oh well.

This post is going to be short. Archie is chatting away in his crib right now. He has been for about 20 min. What can I say, he likes to be left alone. But not always.
Anyway, I did the frame thing and I'm not over the moon about it. It's a bit different from the one I posted about, and I thought that would be a good thing. Eh. It's kinda shabby chic. Whatever. It cost about $23($3 over the budget)and didn't take me long at all. Maybe an hour total. I used an old window I found at my favorite flea market, picture wire and office clips. I couldn't find the clips Pottery Barn used, but I'm still on the hunt for those. Anyway, here it is.

I got laid off yesterday. I had an idea it was going to happen so thankfully it wasn't a surprise....well maybe I was a little surprised. I thought it was between me and this other twit and since no one likes her I thought they would can her. Well, we both got the ax. It was a non-profit and we lost a ton of money in the last couple of years. I was there for 6 years. Longest job I've ever had. And now I'm unemployed for the first time since 1996.
With that being said, I am now a SAHM. I'm pretty excited about it too! It will probably take me a while to adjust, but I'm really looking forward to hanging out with this guy.

I really don't know what's going to happen now. I have things to figure out and now I have time to do it.

I NEED these boots. I totally had a similar pair senior year in 1994. I got them at Payless for $19.99. I remember the price because I had to beg my mom for them. I don't know if it was the money that was the problem or if it was my mom just hating the way I desperately wanted to be "grunge", and how I wanted to move to Seattle and sit in coffee shops all day ogling guys with long hair.

It's getting brr here and these all look nice and comfy. They'd probably look good with those boots up there too. Maybe?

Who doesn't need the Canon EOS 5D? For about $3000 you can own it.

The weekend

This weekend was full of autumn goodness.

Friday night we hung with the in-laws and ate fried pastrami with cheese sandwiches and beef empanadas. With wine. Naturally.
Archie was his usual charming self and wobbled back and forth through the house giggling like a school boy. He is too much sometimes.

Saturday Archie and I took a stroll through the mall. Surprisingly I looked at shoes.

Then we went to Baby Gap so we could try on winter hats.

Somebody wasn't very excited about this part.

In the afternoon we walked in the park and took phone pics of the scenery.

And of course, pics of the baby.

On Sunday I did a few projects. First up was the "Leftover Booze Bottle Project".

Supplies:
*Empty Bombay Sapphire bottles. I used 4. (Now, don't be alarmed. I've been saving these up for some time now.)
*Christmas lights. 2 strands.
*Some stuff to remove the stickiness. I used Goof Off. Now let me just say the Goof Off did not remove the stickers. It just removed the stickiness after the sticker came off. To remove the sticker I just left it outside and it got soaked by the sprinklers. This was a total accident and I wish I had known that before I busted my ass trying to scrape the sticker off of 1 bottle.
*A scraper

Unless you're a moron you can probably figure out how this was done. Just in case, all you do is clean the bottles, shove the lights inside the bottles, place them in a cozy spot, plug in and voila!

***Warning***

It will attract little creatures.

The second project was one that I never imagined myself doing before the age of 65. I made an autumn wreath. The horror!

Supplies:
*A pre-made twig wreath
*Some autumny looking stuff

All I did was secure that stuff to the wreath with twist ties and call it a day.

All items were found at Michaels and were 60% off. Good thing because I would never pay full price for the crap they sell. The whole thing cost about $11.
Behold:

The last project has yet to be completed. It involves a 12 month old and his desire to climb on furniture. He is all "look how awesome I am" when he gets up on the furniture, but when it's time to come down, he's less than thrilled.

Archie is obsessed with the swing. If we walk anywhere near the park and even THINK about not stopping at the swing we are going to hear about it. No, I don't give in everytime. All in all it was a great time with friends and family and I'm so excited to see what's to come in the toddler years.

The bathroom is now the playroom. The toilet paper roll, the shampoo bottles on the side of the tub and all of the knobs on the drawers seem to be loads of fun for the baby. The echo in the bathroom allows me to sit comfortably in the other room and know exactly what is going on in there. And although the lid is up in this photo we do try to keep it closed for the most part. Hopefully the mental picture of seeing our son splashing around in toilet water will be enough motivation for the husband to keep it closed. Telling him that it was fucking with my chi and that it wasn't feng shui didn't seem to work.

P.S I almost want another baby.

Cupcake stand

Most of my weekend consisted of me shopping at thrift stores, gluing the crap out of dishes found at the thrift stores, cutting paper in the shape of flags, putting stickers on the flags and gluing the crap out of the flags. I also managed to get my hair done and get our outfits ready for our pictures this weekend. Oh and I also hung some of the decor for Archie's party. While I'm at it I'll also mention that I went to the gym, went out to dinner with Andoe and Archie, barbequed, and cleaned the house. Crazy as it sounds, those are the kinds of weekends that I like. Busy as shit.
The cupcake stands were easy and cheaper than that cardboard crappy cupcake stand you get at Party City. I started off just making the white one and realized that it wasn't going to hold all of the cupcakes. I went to a diffrent thrift store on Sunday and decided to go a colorful route. I hate matchy matchy anyway. All together I probably paid $15 for all supplies, Gorilla Glue included. I'm pleased.

First off I just want to talk about food.

This stuff is going to make me fat, and I don't care. You must try it and my advice is to just dip your spoon in the honey and then into the yogurt. Do not mix it all together because it will make it thin and you DO NOT want to do this.

I am going to learn how to crochet. I've never had the desire to learn until I saw these. I am going to make that first one down there to throw on every piece of furniture I lay my ass on. Probably.

Man I'm busy. Three birthdays to shop for, family picture outfits to pick out, anniversary celebration, Archie's first birthday party to plan. Shit.
